Digestion is more than about what you eat.  Digestion starts in the mouth with enzymes released by chewing your food, then breakdown of the food continues with other enzymes as it travels from your stomach into your intestines.  Absorption is critical to you getting the vitamins and minerals out of your food needed for growth and repair. And lastly, elimination must be working properly to relieve your body of waste products and toxins.


Any breakdown in this system will lead to a host of problems with symptoms showing up sometimes in the gut but often the symptoms may appear unrelated to the gut at all.  Gut-related symptoms most commonly appear as gas, bloating, indigestion, constipation and diarrhea.  Many people are so used to these symptoms that they feel they are “normal”.  Many other people won’t have any gut-related symptoms but may have symptoms far removed from the gut like acne, fatigue, cravings, or joint/muscle pains.


Additionally, as the adrenals lose proper function, the immune system is compromised and infections may find their way in such as pathogenic bacteria, parasites, worms and yeast overgrowth.  These are much more common then you might think.  Again, you may be aware of symptoms caused by these bugs or you may not.  That is why we use lab tests, to be certain.


The gut microbiome, or the trillions of benefical bacteria living in our gut are essential to the normal functioning of our bodies.  They help with digestion, activating hormones and vitamins, and so many other normal body processes.  When the gut microbiome is out of balance it is called dysbiosis and it must be re-established for health to return.  The use of digestive enzymes, probiotics and gut repairing supplements can help to restore this healthy balance.Killing of the bugs  and restoring gut health, in my experience, can be life-changing.
