I believe that our bodies are designed to be healthy. The more I study the body the more in awe I am. We are extremely adaptable, can endure numerous stresses and we fight off disease throughout our lives. When we take care of ourselves, eat good food, sleep, take time to recover from stressful periods and exercise, then our bodies run like the finely tuned instruments they were meant to be. We have enough energy, vitality and joy to live to our fullest potentials.
On the flip side, lack of health can be a downward spiral of pain and suffering. One of my favorite quotes is from a Greek physician, Herophilus, back in the third century BC. He was one of the first scientists to study anatomy through dissection.
“When HEALTH is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied.”
Unfortunately, we live in times where chronic disease is on the rise and conventional medicine has no answer for it. Most of the common conditions that we see overwhelming our medical system are caused by unhealthy lifestyle choices. Sometimes it seems there’s a conspiracy to make us sick. Processed food, sugar, lack of exercise, not enough sleep, stress, medications, chemical toxins and all the other trappings of our convenience-oriented modern world lead to overwhelm of our body’s ability to thrive.
The good news is that just as we can make ourselves sick, we can make ourselves healthy. When we take responsibility for our health and educate ourselves to make healthy choices, then we can regain our health and thrive once again.
